1.05 Module One Activity – Debate

Argument A: There is a need for students to understand and be able to construct geometric figures using a compass and a straightedge.

Argument B: There is no need for students to use a compass and straightedge, and all geometric constructions should be done using a drawing program.

I chose Argument A.

Summary

In my opinion students should understand and be able to construct geometric figures by hand. Geometric figures can be constructed by using straightedge and a compass. Practicing by hand would help the students understand the steps to constructing the figures. Understanding how to using a compass and a straightedge could impact the students in many ways. It could help them not just understand constructing, but it could help them later in the future with there career.

Reasons why Argument A is better:

1.  Its easier to learn and understand what you are doing when you practice them by hand.

2. Doing constructions by hand you have more flexibility.

3.  It can help you later in the future.

Reasons why Argument B is not better:

1. Some people do not like using computer drawing programs.

2. With drawing programs their can be errors, when doing them by hand there are less errors, and when you make mistakes by hand they are easier to fix.

3. Using drawing programs makes the problem more difficult to solve.
